It’s been a while since our last post, so here is an update on what we have been up to. I lost my job (I was laid off due to the company not doing well) so that has been a real bummer. It is giving me time to be home more with Emma while I try to figure out what I really want to do and while I try to find a legitimate “work from home” job, or something I can do part time so I can continue to be with Emma. I have been filling out and sending in lots of job applications…such fun! Other than that, I will just post pictures of what we have been doing. My pictures are not as good as my husbands, though.
First of all, we were thrilled to find TONS of Paw Paw trees on our property. If you have never heard of this fruit, or tasted it, I can describe it as a cross between a banana, mango and maybe a papaya. They are AMAZING and so very good for you. I even made Paw paw pancakes for us yesterday morning and they were so delicious. We found so many that we were even able to sell a bunch to a local restaurant that uses them when they are in season. So here is Emma, shaking the paw paw tree to get the fruits to drop on the ground for us:
We have also been hatching out some new baby chicks, which is always so fun. Here they are:
We have a total of 16 various chicks now, and they are all so cute because they are a mix between our Buff Orpington/Americana Rooster, plus whatever hen the egg came from. So it is fun to see what we end up with and they are all so different. We also have inherited two other roosters from a neighbor that does not want any roosters, so now we have another Buff Orpington Rooster and a Rhode Island Red Rooster, who never stops crowing.
We also went to visit our neighbor’s pumpkin patch on their farm, so that was fun. They also have a butterfly garden at their place. And they have a real pumpkin patch that you can go out to and pick pumpkins right off the vine if you wish. Here is Emma in the pumpkins:
At this pumpkin patch, I was told that the best kind of pumpkin to use for cooking and baking is the Jarrahdale pumpkin. So, we brought one home and Emma and I made pumpkin pie, from fresh pumpkin instead of pumpkin from a can. And wow, it was AMAZING!!! Then we ate the leftover pumpkin as a side dish with our dinner.
Here is Emma holding the pumpkin, which is a grayish blue pumpkin:
First you cook the pumpkin up:
Then you puree it:
Then you make it into a yummy pie:
It was definitely the best pumpkin pie we have ever had!
Other than all of that, we have been working in our Fall garden, which is great. I am really pleased with it this year.
We just dug up our sweet potatoes this morning and some of them were gigantic:
And we have Swiss Chard:
Kale:
My most favorite type of lettuce is Arugula:
Beans and beets:
And Brussel Sprouts:
We also have spinach and other types of lettuces, but I did not take pictures of everything.
And Emma had fun playing with a pet snail, who is now named “Gary” and she was feeding it in the garden this morning:
Who needs siblings when you can have pet snails???
And one last picture of Emma and I before we went to a “Diva Girl Party” at a neighbor/friends house:

Hi Kim,
Sorry to hear about the layoff. Hope you find what you like soon. You guys are looking well. I love all the fresh vegetables you are growing. I have never heard of Paw paw before. I need to look it up.
