Almost 150 days of nurturing, watering, pampering, and fretting for a lousy sandwich!?
That seems like a lot of work! especially if you grow organic.
Among other things organic practices means NO CHEMICALS, so aside from hoping and praying there is not a lot you can do to prevent tomato horn-worms, flea beetles, aphids, and fruit worms [...]

I know, I know, it’s been far too log since we have updated the blog. We have been trying to keep up with the harvest, and storing produce. With the hot summer weather comes LOTS of work.
The good news is, the tomatoes are really doing well! It’s hard to believe that the tiniest little seed [...]

This book came recommended to me by a friend, and I can tell you now that I will be purchasing this book and reading it over and over. I can’t say enough about this book. It is about a family that chose to leave the city to move to a farm in Virginia [...]

We found LOTS of these cute little buggers eating the parsley and dill.
Instead of killing them I collected them and found a different host plant for them. Butterflies and their caterpillars are finicky creatures. Most will only feed on one or two plant species.

We had talked about it for a long time and felt we were ready to take the plunge. We knew it was a huge responsibility, and would mean changing our lifestyle a bit, but we were ready! We decided on two because they already lived in the same home and knew each other and we [...]
The guinea factory still cranking them out!
Posted in Uncategorized on July 2, 2008 | Leave a Comment »
Well about a month ago one of our guineas went missing. This was about the time we were having the fox issue, so I assume she had gotten eaten. I know from time to time a guinea hen will lay eggs in the brush and try to hatch them herself, but with all the rain [...]

Brined with homemade herbs, roasted with local new potatoes, fresh garden garlic that we harvested last week and mushrooms! And for dessert was a homemade Strawberry Rhubarb torte, with local ingredients from the Farmers Market that morning. ** No animals were harmed in the making of the dessert, however.** We love to eat [...]
